Close-up magic that stops the aisle, starts conversations and gets your team talking to the right people.
You have paid for the space, built the stand, flown the team in and printed the literature. Then you spend two days watching several thousand people walk straight past, because the stand opposite has a coffee machine and you have a pull-up banner.
Footfall is not the problem at a trade show. Stopping it is. A close-up magician working the front of your stand turns people who were walking past into people who are standing still, and standing still is the only thing that has to happen before your team can do their job.
These are not packages so much as jobs. Most stands want one or two of them, and a few want all four across a multi day show.
The main one. I work the front edge of your stand and the aisle immediately in front of it, stopping passers by with two or three minutes of close-up magic, then handing them to your team with a reason to keep talking.
The handover is the part that matters and the part most people never think about. A magician who holds an audience for twenty minutes has built you a crowd and no conversations. I work in short bursts, stay visible rather than hidden in the middle of a crowd, and move people on to your staff while they are still interested rather than when they are ready to leave.
I will also work to whatever qualification you need. If your product only suits a certain job title or company size, tell me what to listen for and I will steer the right people towards your team and let the rest enjoy the trick and move on. Everybody leaves happy, your staff spend their day on prospects instead of passers by.
A different job with a different rhythm. Rather than pulling people in from the aisle, I work inside the stand among guests you have already invited, during a drinks hour, a demo slot or a scheduled client session.
This is about the feel of the stand rather than the numbers through it. A stand with something happening on it reads as busy and confident from thirty metres away, and busy stands attract more people than empty ones, which is the oldest rule at any exhibition.
Magic built around what you actually sell. I can work your product, your message or your brand into the effects themselves, so the thing people remember is not just the magician but what your company does.
Giveaways can be built into the magic too. A branded keyring that appears in a burst of fire gets taken home, kept, and shown to somebody else in the office the following week. A branded pen from a bowl goes in a bin at the airport. The same spend, a completely different outcome.
This one needs the most lead time, because anything custom has to be designed, tested and made. Get in touch early if it is of interest.
The part of a trade show that gets forgotten. The hall closes, the beers come out on the stand, or everyone moves on to a client reception or an evening do at a nearby hotel.
That is often when the real conversations happen, and it is the cheapest slot to add because I am already there. An hour of close-up magic at a post show reception costs a fraction of the day and lands with people who are finally relaxed, off duty and far more likely to remember it.
Every stand has considered a coffee machine, a prize draw, a mascot or a VR headset. They all have the same weakness: they attract people who want coffee, a prize, a photo or a go on the headset, and those people will happily take it without ever speaking to you.
Magic is the only one where the attraction is a conversation. You cannot watch close-up magic passively from a queue. You stand in a small group, you react, you talk to the person next to you and you talk to the magician, and at the end of it you are already in a conversation with somebody from the stand. The step everyone else has to engineer happens by itself.
It also scales down better than anything with a plug. No queue to manage, no consumables to restock, nothing to break on day two.
Most stands run one of two shapes.
Rolling. I work continuously through the day in short sets, taking regular breaks. Best for a steady stream of traffic across a long hall and the most common choice.
Scheduled. Set times each hour, promoted on your stand and in your pre show emails, so there is a reason for somebody to come back at two o’clock. Better for a stand with a demo or presentation to build around.
For a larger stand or a long hall, two magicians working different edges cover far more ground than one working twice as hard. There is more on how that maths works on my magicians for large events page.
I have performed at trade shows and exhibitions including London Olympia, ExCeL London, the NEC and the showground at Coventry, alongside regular corporate work across London and the UK.
Each of those was a booking made by the exhibitor, not an arrangement with the venue. If your show is somewhere else, that makes no difference to anything.
For shows outside the UK, close-up magic travels better than most entertainment because it needs no shared language and nothing has to be shipped or cleared through customs. See international bookings.
Nothing. No power, no staging, no sound, no lighting, no space on your stand plan and no storage. Everything I work with fits in a jacket pocket, so on a small stand I take up no more room than one extra member of staff, and on a busy one I am working the aisle rather than your floor space.
I dress to match your team. Suit, black tie, or your own branded polo shirt if that is what everyone else is wearing, which for a trade show is usually the right answer.
Trade show work is booked by the day or the half day rather than by the hour, because a show runs to its own timetable rather than yours. Multi day shows are quoted per show, and the per day rate comes down across a run.
Adding an after show reception to a day you have already booked is the cheapest hour you will buy all week, because the travel and the day are already paid for.
Send me the show, the dates, your stand number and roughly what you are hoping to get out of it, and I will come back within 24 hours.
Tell me which show you are exhibiting at and what you want the stand to achieve, and I will tell you which of the four above I would actually recommend. If a half day does the job, I will say so.

I am based in Orpington, Greater London, UK, but regularly perform at high-profile events nationwide and internationally - including regularly across Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
Most bookings run one to two hours of mixed-and-mingled close-up magic, though I offer flexible packages from a short 45-minute slot up to a full day's entertainment - whatever suits your event.
The Magic Circle is Britain's most respected society for magicians, founded in 1905. It isn't a membership you can simply pay for - every applicant has to pass a formal examination (or submit a thesis) in front of a panel of existing members, demonstrating real skill and knowledge of the craft, before being admitted. I've been a Member since 2016.
