Wedding Magician London

Close-up wedding magic for London venues - drinks receptions, wedding breakfasts and evening parties, wherever in the capital you're saying "I do."

About Wedding Magician London

London weddings happen everywhere from converted Shoreditch warehouses to grand riverside hotels, historic City livery halls and intimate registry offices, and close-up magic works brilliantly at every one of them. Pete James is a Member of The Magic Circle, promoted to Associate of the Inner Magic Circle in 2021, with 15+ years of performing at weddings behind him. Based just outside the capital in Orpington, he’s a short journey from any London venue and has entertained wedding guests right across the city, from the West End to Canary Wharf.

Whether it’s the drinks reception while the photographs are being taken, table-to-table magic during the wedding breakfast, or working the bar during the evening reception, Pete adapts his close-up magic to whichever part of your London wedding day needs filling – breaking the ice between guests who’ve never met, and leaving the two of you with a genuinely magical memory of your own.

London Venues Where Pete Has Performed

A selection across weddings, private celebrations and corporate events. Every one was booked by the couple, host or company running the event, not by the venue itself:

  • The Painted Hall, Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich
  • Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane
  • Nonsuch Mansion, Sutton
  • De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, Covent Garden
  • Ham Yard Hotel, Soho
  • Andaz London Liverpool Street
  • Pan Pacific London, Bishopsgate
  • The Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly
  • The Caledonian Club, Belgravia
  • The Brewery and City Central at the HAC, in the City
  • Madhu’s at The Grove, Southall
  • The Ivy, Soho

Plenty of London weddings happen at venues that never make a list like this, from private homes in Wandsworth to function rooms in Lewisham. Pete works at all of them the same way.

When the Magic Fits Into Your Wedding Day

Most London couples book one of three slots, or a combination. The drinks reception is the most popular: it’s the gap where guests who’ve never met are standing around waiting for the photographer to finish, and close-up magic turns that awkward hour into the part people remember.

The wedding breakfast works differently. Pete moves table to table between courses, so each group gets its own private performance rather than one show everyone has to watch at once. It suits London’s longer seated dinners particularly well, where there can be a real lull between the main course and the speeches.

The evening reception is the third option, usually once the dancing has started and a chunk of guests have drifted to the bar. Pete never performs over the speeches or the first dance – the act works around your running order, not across it.

What Affects the Cost of a London Wedding Magician

There’s no single price for a wedding magician, and anyone quoting one before they know your details is guessing. A handful of things genuinely move the figure:

  • How long you need. A 45-minute drinks reception slot costs less than a drinks-through-to-evening booking.
  • Guest numbers. Above roughly 150 guests, one magician cannot realistically reach every group in a sensible window, so it is worth discussing timings or a second performer.
  • The date. Saturdays between May and September, and most of December, book up first and are the hardest dates to get.
  • Which parts of the day. Drinks reception only, table-to-table during the breakfast, evening reception, or a combination.

Travel is not one of them for London weddings. There is a fuller breakdown of how magician pricing works in the guide to what a wedding magician costs in the UK, or send over your date, venue and rough guest numbers and Pete will come back with an actual figure rather than an estimate.

Getting to Your London Venue

A practical point most couples never think to ask about: close-up magic needs no staging, no sound system, no power and no load-in. Pete arrives with everything in his pockets, which means no van, no parking headache for your venue, and nothing for the coordinator to schedule around. Congestion charge, ULEZ and central London parking are all absorbed at Pete’s end rather than added to your quote.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

I am based in Orpington, Greater London, UK, but regularly perform at high-profile events nationwide and internationally - including regularly across Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.

Most bookings run one to two hours of mixed-and-mingled close-up magic, though I offer flexible packages from a short 45-minute slot up to a full day's entertainment - whatever suits your event.

The Magic Circle is Britain's most respected society for magicians, founded in 1905. It isn't a membership you can simply pay for - every applicant has to pass a formal examination (or submit a thesis) in front of a panel of existing members, demonstrating real skill and knowledge of the craft, before being admitted. I've been a Member since 2016.

No - London is fully within my regular coverage area, so there's no travel surcharge for venues anywhere in the capital.

Yes - I regularly work with hotel and venue coordinators across London, arrive in good time, and I'm always happy to liaise directly with your venue beforehand.

It depends on how long you need me, your guest numbers, the date and which parts of the day you want covered - so rather than quote a headline figure that turns out to be wrong for your wedding, I'll give you an exact price once I know those details. There's no travel surcharge for London venues. Send over your date, venue and rough guest numbers and I'll come straight back to you.

All of it, central and Greater London alike - from the City, Covent Garden, Soho, Mayfair and Park Lane out to Greenwich, Canary Wharf, Richmond, Sutton and the outer boroughs. I'm based in Orpington, so nowhere in the capital is a difficult journey.

Nothing at all. No stage, no sound system, no power, no table and nothing to load in or out. Everything I need fits in my pockets, which makes me one of the easiest suppliers on your list for a London venue to accommodate.

It depends on how long you can give me. Close-up magic is limited by how many groups one person can genuinely reach in a set window, so for larger London weddings I'll either recommend a longer booking or be upfront that a second performer would serve your guests better. Tell me your numbers and I'll give you an honest answer rather than overpromising.
