About Wedding Magician for Unforgettable Wedding Entertainment
Your wedding day is made up of hundreds of little moments, and the best ones are often the unexpected ones.
A professional wedding magician is the perfect way to entertain your guests during the drinks reception, wedding breakfast or evening celebrations. Pete James provides interactive close-up magic that brings guests together, breaks the ice between family and friends, and creates unforgettable moments that people will still be talking about long after your wedding day.
Based in Orpington and performing at weddings across London, Kent, Surrey and the wider UK, Pete specialises in close-up wedding magic designed around your day. Whether your guests are meeting for the first time, waiting between courses, or relaxing after the speeches, Pete adapts his performance to the atmosphere and the people in front of him.
As a personal finishing touch, the happy couple can even receive a magical souvenir to remember their special day.
Wedding Magic Packages
Wedding Breakfast Magic
Keep your guests entertained throughout your meal with close-up magic performed table-to-table between courses and around the speeches.
Pete creates moments of laughter, surprise and connection, helping guests who may not know each other feel more relaxed while filling the natural gaps in your wedding breakfast.
Evening Wedding Entertainment
As the evening celebrations begin, Pete brings close-up magic directly to your guests as they enjoy the bar, tables and reception areas.
Perfect for keeping guests entertained between the meal and dancing, evening wedding magic gives everyone something to enjoy – including those who would rather stay away from the dance floor.
Wedding Breakfast & Evening Package
For couples who want their guests entertained throughout the day, the combination package offers the complete wedding magic experience.
Pete performs during your wedding breakfast and returns for the evening reception, ensuring guests throughout the day have the opportunity to experience unforgettable close-up magic.
What Affects the Cost of a Wedding Magician
There’s no single price, and anyone quoting one before they know your details is guessing. Four things move it more than anything else:
- How long you need. A 45-minute drinks reception slot is a different booking to a drinks-through-to-evening combo.
- Guest numbers. Above roughly 150 guests, one magician cannot realistically reach every group in a sensible window, so it is worth discussing timings or a second performer.
- The date. Saturdays between May and September, and most of December, book up first and are the hardest dates to get.
- Travel. Anywhere in London, Kent and Surrey carries no surcharge; further afield is worth asking about.
There is a fuller breakdown in the guide to what a wedding magician costs in the UK. Send over your date, venue and rough guest numbers and Pete will come back with an actual figure rather than a range.
Wedding Venues Pete Knows
From the Painted Hall at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich and Grosvenor House on Park Lane, to country houses like Great Fosters and Chilston Park, and barns including Rivervale Barn, Hayne Barn House and Coltsford Mill. Every one of those was booked by the couple getting married, not by the venue, but it means Pete arrives knowing how a wedding day actually runs. There’s a fuller list on the notable venues page.
The Practical Side
Nothing needs setting up, plugging in or loading in. There’s no stage, no sound system and no equipment, which makes Pete one of the easiest suppliers on your list for a venue coordinator to accommodate. He’s fully insured, and public liability certificates and risk assessments are available on request if your venue asks for them.
Why Couples Book Pete
- Member of The Magic Circle since 2016, AIMC since 2021 – a credential that has to be examined for, not bought
- 15+ years of weddings, and hundreds of five-star Google reviews
- Works around your running order rather than across it
- Nothing to set up, plug in or park
- Fully insured, with certificates and risk assessments available for venues

Frequently Asked Questions
I am based in Orpington, Greater London, UK, but regularly perform at high-profile events nationwide and internationally - including regularly across Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
Most bookings run one to two hours of mixed-and-mingled close-up magic, though I offer flexible packages from a short 45-minute slot up to a full day's entertainment - whatever suits your event.
The Magic Circle is Britain's most respected society for magicians, founded in 1905. It isn't a membership you can simply pay for - every applicant has to pass a formal examination (or submit a thesis) in front of a panel of existing members, demonstrating real skill and knowledge of the craft, before being admitted. I've been a Member since 2016.
Yes - I can perform during your couple portraits or group photos as part of any package, or add it on separately. Let me know when you enquire and we'll work out the best timing around your photographer's schedule.
No - I always work around the speeches rather than over them, performing table-to-table before they start and picking back up once they've finished, so nothing competes for your guests' attention.
As soon as your date and venue are confirmed, ideally 6-12 months out for peak season (May to September) - popular Saturdays get booked up early, though I'm always happy to check availability for shorter notice too.
