Magician Sevenoaks

Close-up magic for weddings, corporate events and private celebrations in and around Sevenoaks.

About Magician Sevenoaks

Sevenoaks is where my patch stops being London and starts being Kent, and the events change with it. Twenty minutes from Orpington and the venues stop being function rooms and start being country houses, village halls and places at the end of a lane with no streetlights.

That’s a different job in ways that matter. It’s also entirely within my normal coverage, so there’s no travel charge.

Venues around Sevenoaks

The town is best known for Knole House, the deer park and Jacobean house on its southern edge. To be clear about what I’m claiming: that’s what Sevenoaks is known for, not a venue I’m telling you I’ve worked. If you’re planning something there, ask me and I’ll tell you honestly whether I’ve performed there before.

Westerham Golf Club, just west of the town, is one I’ve worked and know. Beyond that, my Sevenoaks-area work is spread across the villages rather than concentrated in the town: hotel function rooms, private houses, and the kind of country venue that doesn’t advertise.

The kind of events Sevenoaks actually produces

Weddings here are country weddings, and they run to a different rhythm from town ones. Longer gaps, more outdoor time, guests who’ve travelled and are staying over, and a day that stretches rather than runs to a tight schedule.

There’s also a steady seam of significant private celebrations, the sort held at home when home has the room for a marquee. And a quieter category worth mentioning: corporate dinners at country venues, where a company takes a house or a hotel out of town precisely so the evening doesn’t feel like an office event.

Getting there, parking and access

The practical difference between Sevenoaks and my London bookings is that rural venues solve some problems and create others. Parking is almost never the issue it is in Bromley or Croydon: country venues have space. What replaces it is finding the place at all, particularly for an evening event down an unlit lane in November.

I build that in rather than cutting it fine, and I don’t charge for the extra time. What I would ask is that if your venue is genuinely hard to find, or the postcode drops you in the wrong field, tell me when you book.

Marquees and outdoor receptions are common around here and worth flagging early. Close-up magic works outdoors, but wind is a real constraint on some material, so it helps to know in advance whether we’re inside, outside, or hoping.

Which part of the day usually needs filling

At a country wedding it’s usually two gaps rather than one, and this is the main thing I’d want a Sevenoaks couple to know.

The first is the drinks reception, same as anywhere. The second is more particular to rural venues: the turnaround between the wedding breakfast and the evening, when the room is being reset and guests spill outside with nothing to do. In town, people go to the bar. At a country venue there often isn’t one, or it’s the same room being turned around.

If you’re only booking one slot, the second gap is frequently the more useful one, and it’s rarely what people ask for first.

What it costs

My bookings run from £450 to £1,200:

Performance timePrice
45 minutes to 1 hour£450 – £600
2 hours£500 – £900
4 hours£800 – £1,200

The bands overlap deliberately. Duration sets the floor, it doesn’t set the price.

One thing worth understanding for country weddings specifically: covering two separate gaps with a two-hour booking can mean six or seven hours at your venue because of the wait in between. That’s the same performance time as two continuous hours but a very different day, and it sits at the top of its band rather than the bottom. It’s usually still worth it. I’d just rather you knew why the number looks like it does.

No travel surcharge for Sevenoaks, or anywhere else in Kent, London, Surrey or Berkshire.

What’s included

Every booking includes:

  • Close-up magic performed among your guests rather than from a stage
  • Full public liability insurance, which most venues require evidence of before they’ll let a supplier work
  • PAT-tested equipment and written risk assessments where your venue asks for them
  • A planning conversation beforehand, so I know the shape of your event
  • Flexibility across whichever part of the day actually needs filling

What doesn’t cost extra

Travel within my core area. Arriving early to set up. Staying on when things overrun by fifteen minutes. A phone call beforehand to talk it through. None of it appears on an invoice.

If a quote you’ve had elsewhere excludes insurance or travel, you aren’t comparing like with like.

Common questions about Sevenoaks bookings

Is there a travel charge to book you in Sevenoaks? No. Sevenoaks and the surrounding villages are inside my core area.

Our venue is outdoors, or partly outdoors. Does that work? Yes, with a caveat. Close-up magic needs no power, staging or sound, so a marquee or a garden is fine. Wind is the real constraint, not rain, because some material uses cards. Tell me the plan and I’ll bring the right set.

Our wedding has a long gap between the meal and the evening. Should we cover that instead of the drinks reception? Often, yes. It’s the gap most couples underestimate and the one guests notice.

Do you know the villages as well as the town? Yes. Most of my work in this area is outside Sevenoaks itself.

Booking

Send me your date, venue and rough guest numbers and I’ll come back with a firm price rather than an estimate. No obligation and no follow-up sequence.
