Wedding Magician Surrey

Close-up wedding magic for Surrey's country house hotels, manor venues and Surrey Hills celebrations.

About Wedding Magician Surrey

Surrey weddings sit at the formal end of what I do. Where a Kent barn wedding is all exposed beams and wandering between the courtyard and the bar, a Surrey wedding is more often a country house with a terrace, a lawn that someone mows in stripes, and a running order that people actually stick to.

That is not a criticism of either. It changes what an entertainer is for. At a relaxed barn the magic adds to a room that is already loose. At a Surrey country house it more often does the opposite job: it gives people permission to stop being polite at each other and start talking properly.

Surrey venues I have worked

Barnett Hill Hotel, the country house at Wonersh just outside Guildford, is the most recent and the one I would point to first. It is the kind of Surrey venue this page is really about: a proper house, a terrace, grounds, and a day that runs to a plan.

The rest, all of them booked by the couple or the host rather than by the venue:

  • Great Fosters, Egham
  • Macdonald Frimley Hall Hotel and Spa, Camberley
  • Smallfield Place, near Horley
  • Coltsford Mill, a converted watermill near Oxted
  • Nonsuch Mansion, Sutton
  • Royal Mid Surrey Golf Club and Kingswood Golf Club
  • Lingfield Park Golf Club
  • The Jockey Club at Epsom Downs Racecourse

I am not on a preferred supplier list at any of them, and I would rather say that plainly than let a list of names imply otherwise.

The Surrey golf club wedding

Two of the venues above are golf clubs, and that is not an accident. Surrey has an unusual concentration of them, and their function rooms do a steady wedding and celebration trade that does not get talked about much because a golf club is nobody’s dream venue on Instagram.

They are, in practice, good rooms to work. The bar is usually right there, the terrace opens onto something green, and the layout tends to be one large space rather than three small ones, which means I can cover the room without losing people in corridors.

There is a separate golf club magician page if that is specifically what you are planning.

Getting there, parking and access

Most of Surrey reaches me by motorway, which makes it predictable in a way rural Kent is not. The M25 is the whole story: fine outside peak, genuinely bad inside it, and I plan around that rather than hoping.

Country house venues solve parking by having grounds. Guildford, Reigate and the town centre venues are the ones worth thinking about, because they behave more like London: a car park rather than a driveway, and a walk at the other end.

None of it costs you anything. Travel within my core area, arriving early and the time spent working out access are part of the booking rather than line items.

Which part of the day usually needs filling

The drinks reception is the standard answer and it is usually right. You are having photographs taken, and your guests are standing on a lawn holding a glass and talking to the two people they already knew.

The Surrey-specific version of this is the terrace. A lot of these venues have one, and when the weather is good the reception spreads outdoors across a wider area than the couple expects. That is genuinely harder to work than one room, because people are in scattered pockets rather than a crowd, and it takes longer to reach everyone. It is worth mentioning when you enquire, because it affects how long you actually need rather than how much you are charged per hour.

At a seated wedding breakfast I move table to table between courses, so each group gets its own performance rather than watching something from across the room. I do not perform over the speeches or the first dance. The act works around your running order, not across it.

What it costs

My bookings run from £450 to £1,200:

Performance timePrice
45 minutes to 1 hour£450 – £600
2 hours£500 – £900
4 hours£800 – £1,200

Those bands overlap deliberately. How long you book me for sets the floor, it does not set the price. The date matters more than most people expect, and Saturdays from May to September and the whole of December are the busiest in the calendar.

Surrey carries no travel surcharge. Neither does anywhere else in London, Kent or Berkshire.

What’s included

Every booking includes:

  • Close-up magic performed among your guests rather than from a stage
  • Full public liability insurance, which most venues require evidence of before they’ll let a supplier work
  • PAT-tested equipment and written risk assessments where your venue asks for them
  • A planning conversation beforehand, so I know the shape of your event
  • Flexibility across whichever part of the day actually needs filling

What doesn’t cost extra

Travel within my core area. Arriving early to set up. Staying on when things overrun by fifteen minutes. A phone call beforehand to talk it through. None of it appears on an invoice.

If a quote you’ve had elsewhere excludes insurance or travel, you aren’t comparing like with like.

Common questions about Surrey weddings

Is there a travel charge anywhere in Surrey? No. The county is inside my core area.

Our reception is on a terrace or spread across a garden. Does that change anything? It does not change the price, but it does change how long you need. Guests spread across a lawn take longer to reach than guests in one room, so it is worth saying when you enquire.

Our venue is a golf club. Is that a problem? The opposite. They tend to be good rooms to work, usually one large space with the bar in it.

Do you know the venue we have booked? Possibly. There is a list above of the ones I have worked. If yours is not on it, I will find out what I need to know beforehand rather than pretending otherwise.

Do you do children’s parties? My core work is adult weddings, corporate events and celebrations. The close-up material works well for family events with mixed ages, but I’m not a children’s entertainer and I’d rather say so than take a booking I’m the wrong fit for.

Booking

Send me your date, venue and rough guest numbers and I’ll come back with a firm price rather than an estimate. No obligation and no follow-up sequence.

The Magic Circle is Britain's most respected society for magicians, founded in 1905. I've been a Member since 2016.
