Corporate Magician London
Close-up magic for London corporate events - client dinners, product launches, awards nights and office parties.
About Corporate Magician London
Trying to impress clients, or after some proper entertainment at your next London event? Pete James is a Member of The Magic Circle, promoted to Associate of the Inner Magic Circle in 2021, and has spent years performing at corporate events across the City, the West End, Canary Wharf and the Docklands. Close-up, interactive magic breaks the ice far better than a typical DJ or guest speaker – it gets people mingling, laughing and swapping stories, exactly what a good corporate event needs.
Pete tailors the act to suit the event – a product launch, an awards dinner, a Christmas party or a client entertainment evening – and can work the room during drinks and canapes or between courses at a seated dinner. Clean, sharp, genuinely baffling magic that works just as well for a boardroom of directors as it does for a room full of clients you’re trying to impress.
London Venues Where Pete Has Performed
A selection. Every one of these was a booking made by the company, agency or planner running the event, not an endorsement or partnership with the venue itself:
- The Brewery, in the City
- City Central at the HAC, Moorgate
- Andaz London Liverpool Street
- London Hilton on Park Lane
- Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane
- Pan Pacific London, Bishopsgate
- The Caledonian Club, Belgravia
- The Royal Air Force Club, Piccadilly
- De Vere Grand Connaught Rooms, Covent Garden
- Ham Yard Hotel and the Century Club, Soho
- ExCeL London and Battersea Evolution
- Revolution, Leadenhall Street
- Southwark’s Blue Fin Building
Where Close-Up Magic Fits Into a Corporate Event
The drinks reception is where this works hardest. It’s the part of the evening where people default to talking to the colleagues they already know, and a magician moving between groups gives strangers a reason to start a conversation. For client entertainment and networking events, that’s the entire point of the booking.
At a seated dinner or awards night, Pete works table to table between courses. It fills the gaps in a long running order without competing with the speeches or the awards themselves, and every table gets its own performance rather than watching something from across the room.
For product launches, exhibition stands and conference breaks, close-up magic works as a crowd-draw. It gives people a reason to stop at your stand and stay long enough for your team to actually talk to them, which is a harder problem than getting footfall past it in the first place.
What Affects the Cost of a Corporate Magician in London
There is no single figure, and anyone quoting one before they know your event details is guessing. The things that genuinely move it:
- How long you need. A 45-minute drinks reception slot is a different booking to a drinks-plus-dinner evening.
- Guest numbers. Past roughly 150 guests, one magician cannot reach every group in a sensible window, so it is worth discussing either a longer booking or a second performer.
- The date. December is the busiest month in the corporate calendar by a distance, and the good dates go before some companies have confirmed their venue.
- Format. Walk-around during drinks, table-to-table at dinner, a stand at an exhibition, or a combination across the same event.
Travel within London is not one of them. Send over your date, venue and rough guest numbers and Pete will come back with an actual figure rather than a range.
Working With Your Venue and Building
The practical side, which usually matters more to whoever is organising than to anyone attending: there is nothing to set up, nothing to plug in, no staging, no sound system and nothing to load in or out. Everything needed fits in a jacket pocket.
Pete is used to London office buildings with security desks, ID checks and sign-in procedures, and arrives early enough to get through them without it becoming your problem. Public liability insurance certificates and risk assessments are available on request for venue or building management. Congestion charge, ULEZ and parking are absorbed rather than added to your quote.

Frequently Asked Questions
I am based in Orpington, Greater London, UK, but regularly perform at high-profile events nationwide and internationally - including regularly across Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Essex, Hertfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
Most bookings run one to two hours of mixed-and-mingled close-up magic, though I offer flexible packages from a short 45-minute slot up to a full day's entertainment - whatever suits your event.
The Magic Circle is Britain's most respected society for magicians, founded in 1905. It isn't a membership you can simply pay for - every applicant has to pass a formal examination (or submit a thesis) in front of a panel of existing members, demonstrating real skill and knowledge of the craft, before being admitted. I've been a Member since 2016.
Yes - I regularly perform at London offices with security check-in and ID requirements, and I always arrive early with everything your building needs.
Both - client lunches, daytime launches and conference breaks work just as well as evening drinks and dinners.
It depends on how long you need me, your guest numbers, the date and the format - so rather than quote a headline figure that turns out to be wrong for your event, I'll give you an exact price once I know those details. There's no travel charge for London venues. December books up first, so if your event is a Christmas party it's worth asking early.
Yes - public liability insurance certificates and risk assessments are available on request, which is usually everything a London venue or building management team asks for. Let me know what your side needs and I'll get it over.
None of it. Everything I need fits in a jacket pocket, there's nothing to load in or out, and nothing for your AV supplier or venue to schedule around. It makes me one of the simplest things on an event running order.
It depends how long you can give me. Close-up magic is limited by how many groups one person can genuinely reach in a set window, so for larger London events I'll either suggest a longer booking or tell you honestly that a second performer would serve your guests better. Send me your numbers and running order and I'll give you a straight answer.
